Supporting Inward Migration

Welcome to the Supporting Inward Migration Microsite where you will find information about a wide range of support services for both employers within the region, and individuals or families who have moved to the region and require help to settle into work and living in a new country.

The Highlands & Islands of Scotland provides a wide range of employment opportunities, combined with an excellent quality of life with easy access to ‘city’ facilities yet within easy reach of the great outdoors where numerous activities can be experienced. The area is steeped in culture and heritage and has something for everyone.

The map below shows the region in relation to the rest of Scotland and there are excellent transport links to other major Scottish cities as well as a regular air travel to a number of major UK cities which provide onward links to other parts of the world. Detailed airline information can be found at www.hial.co.uk

About this project

map

The Highland Community Planning Partnership(a partnership of public agencies within the region) recognises the vital contribution which migrant workers make to the economic success of the region. However it was recognised that support mechanisms to enable inward migrant workers to settle in the region were inadequate as the number of people seeking support increased. It was also acknowledged that local employers in the region also required support to help recruit, train and take care of employee’s wellbeing.

As a result of this the agencies involved have developed a strategy which identified the key areas where additional support is required and secured funding from the European Social Fund to provide a programme of support to help address the issues.

The project has been split into 4 different areas of support. These are:

These sections contain information about support whether you are an individual or an employer who has migrant worker employees or if you want to find out more about recruiting migrant workers. Within each section there are also FAQ’s (frequently asked questions) and case studies which show real life case studies of people who have moved to the region and settled into Highland Life.

There is also a page listing other useful contacts within the area.
