Mountain Rescue - Coire Na Ciste, Ben Nevis

    Issued: 30 Dec 2026

Rescuers are currently searching the Coire Na Ciste area of Ben Nevis following reports of an avalanche in the area earlier today.

A member of the public reported the avalanche at around 10.47am today (30 December 2026). Reports suggest there may have been two people caught up in the avalanche.

The rescue operation is ongoing and involves the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and Rescue One Three Seven. There is no confirmation at this time that the two individuals are actually buried in the snow and the situation will become clearer as the team makes its way onto the hill.

Conditions are favourable at this time although there is still a risk of further avalanche. Rescuers will take their own safety into account during the operation and will continue to assess the situation.
