Mountain Rescue - Lochaber

Issued: 26 Dec 2024

About 1730 hours on Monday, 25th December,2006, Police at Fort William received a telephone call from two male climbers - aged 19 and 27 years - reporting that they had become stranded in the area of Castle Gully, Ben Nevis.

Fifteen members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team responded as did a rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet.

Due to the prevailing weather conmdtions, the helicopter was unable to reach the two men. However, it did ferry Rescue team members to a point half way towards them. They then had to walk towards the men and arrived with them shortly before midnight. They were both safe and well.

The Rescue Team then escorted the two men to the summmit on foot where they were all airlifted off by helicopter.

The men did not require any medical treatment.

The details of the climbers are not being released at their request.
