Update - Fatal Road Traffic Collision - Nairn

Issued: 25 Feb 2024

Police can now confirm the details of a 15-year-old cyclist who died following a collision with a car on the A96 at its junction with Sandown Farm Lane, Nairn yesterday.

Daniel Burgess, 15, pupil at Nairn Academy.

His family are obviously devastated following yesterday's tragic events and have asked Police to issue a statement on their behalf.

Daniel's father Andy Burgess said: "It is with the deepest of regret that Liz (mother) and I report the sudden and tragic death of our precious son Daniel, older brother to Sean (13) and Andrew (11).

"Daniel was a happy and lively young sports fanatic. He liked nothing better than spending every possible moment either on the golf courses of Nairn or being on the local football pitches where he starred for Nairn County's youth team.

"He will be sorely missed by our family and friends in the Nairn and Stonehaven areas, where we lived previously.

"Whilst we are very grateful for the support we have received we respectfully ask that we be left alone now to deal with our tragic loss."
