Update - Death - Voe Shetland

Issued: 20 Mar 2024

The fisherman who died yesterday after being lost overboard near Voe, shetland, can be named as:

MARTIN RAMSAY, 44 YEARS, OF LINABRETTA, NEEPOBACK, BURRAVOE, SHETLAND.

The deceased was working aboard the "Conquest" boat which was working at a salmon farm at Stead, approximately seven miles from Voe.

As the boat made its way back to Voe in the afternoon the deceased was last seen approximately 15 minutes sailing time from Voe pier. At that time it was believed he was going below deck. However, on returning to the pier the deceased was not found to be on the boat.

A search of the route into the pier was carried out and the deceased's body was found in the water near to where he had been last seen on the boat.

Police enquiries are ongoing and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. The Health and Safety Executive and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch have also been informed.
