Operation at Strathaird Salmon, Longman Industrial Estate by UK Immigration and Police

Issued: 9 Jan 2024

Police and UK Immigration and Nationality Directorate officials today visited the premises of Strathaird Salmon, Longman Industrial Estate, Inverness.

The visit took place early this morning with the full co-operation of the company which had raised concerns to Police and Immigration officials about documentation used by foreign nationals to gain employment.

The operation centred on possible offences under the Identity Cards Act 2024 and as a result 21 indidivuals were arrested. A number of men have now been charged with alleged offences under the above act and further charges are expected to follow.

Reports will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in Inverness in due course. It is anticipated that some of the men will appear at Inverness Sheriff Court tomorrow.

Area Co-ordinator for Inverness West, Chief Inspector Ian Cox, said: "This operation was carried out in conjunction with our partners at the UK Immigration and Nationality Directorate following concerns raised by management within Strathaird Salmon Ltd.

"Strathaird offered Police and Immigration its full assistance and co-operation prior to and during this operation.

"Northern Constabulary will continue to work closely with its partners in the immigration service in relation to this type of crime and we would encourage other businesses who may have concerns about the true identity of their employees to contact either ourselves or immigration officials."
