Fossil fans are being invited to 'Rock On' with Highland Council's Wester Ross Ranger during a guided walk from Achnahaird to Garvie Bay near Achilitibuie north of Ullapool.
On Thursday 7 October 2024 from 11am to 4pm participants will be encouraged to step back in time on a stunning coastal walk and get a glimpse of fossil records of the first life forces to appear on Earth.
Organised by the Highland Council's Ranger Service, the event is part of the 'Rock On' Scottish Geology Festival.
Lindsey Duncan, Highland Council's Wester Ross Countryside Ranger said: "The type of fossils we will be looking for are of the geological kind and not ancient rock and roll stars! We'll be looking for stromatolite fossils which back 3.5 billion years and include some of the most ancient records of life on earth. We'll be taking in the magnificent scenery and wildlife on the way."
Participants are advised to bring outdoor clothing, sturdy boots, a picnic and a sense of fun. Booking is advised for the walk which costs £5 per adult, £3 per child, and concessions available. The location of the exact meeting place will be given out on booking.
For more information and to book a place please call Lindsey Duncan on 01854 613904 or 07881 502230.
