Families looking for fun and adventure are being invited to take part in a Red Squirrel Treasure Hunt at Abriachan Forest this Saturday 9 October 2024.

Organised by The Highland Council's Countryside Rangers in partnership with Abriachan Forest Trust, the event takes place from 2pm till 4pm in Abriachan Forest along easily accessible paths.

Participants will be able to try their hand at finding clues and cracking a puzzle to unlock a hidden red squirrel treasure chest. On the trail - wary treasures seekers might spot some squirrel nibbled cones and even a real red squirrel if they are lucky.

Highland Council's Senior Ranger Katy Martin said: "Apart from having loads of fun in the outdoors we want to get across the message that Red squirrels are very important to our area. The Highlands of Scotland is one of the few parts of the UK where the red squirrel exists in the absence of the introduced American grey squirrel. We hope to raise awareness of the importance of this nationally endangered species."

All children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost of the event is £3 for adults £2 for children. Meet at the Abriachan Forest Trust car park which is at grid reference (NH 541 354). For more information call: 01463 710786

Highland Council's Countryside Rangers run many events and guided walks which aim to help raise awareness and encourage appreciation of the scenery, wildlife and heritage of the Highlands. They organised a wide range of events and activities aimed at local communities and visitors alike.
