Update 2 - Fire at Culloden Court Nursing Home - Smithton, Inverness

Issued: 19 Oct 2024

Following the serious fire at Culloden Court Nursing Home last night, Police and fire services are still in attendance at the location this morning.

Murray Road in Smithon remains closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic and will remain so for most of today.

All 59 residents and 12 staff were all accounted for. A multi-agency group set up following the fire ensured that all residents were found alternative accommodation.

A telephone number has been issued for relatives who require information about their loved ones. Relatives should contact Cradlehall Care Centre in Inverness on 01463 794885. The Cradlehall centre is the sister home of Culloden Court Nursing Home and both are operated by Southern Cross.

The building remains unsafe to enter at this time and a "dampening down" process will continue throughout the day.

A joint fire and Police investigation will commence, once the area is deemed safe, to investigate the cause of the fire which will include a forensic examination of the scene.

Northern Constabulary would like to thank the local community for their kind assistance during this incident.
