Fire - Smithton, Inverness

Police, fire and ambulance staff are currently dealing with a major fire at nursing home in Smithton, Inverness.

The fire was reported just after 6pm this evening. There are believed to be 59 elderly residents all of whom have been safely removed from the premises. All staff have also been accounted for.

The building is still well ablaze and crews from highlands and islands fire and rescue service are tackling the fire.

The weather is very wet and the elderly residents are being taken to a reception centre at Smithton Primary School.

The fire is ongoing and residents living nearby are requested to remain indoors with windows closed due to the smoke.

At present Murray Terrace has been closed.
