Fatal House Fire - Alness

About 1800 hrs, Saturday 23rd December 2024, police received reports of a house fire at 90 Salvesen Crescent, Alness, Ross-shire.

Police, Fire and Ambulance attended. The fire was extinguished and an elderly female, believed to be one of the occupiers, was found within the property, having suffered fatal injuries, pronounced dead at the scene.

A Northern Constabulary and Highlands & Islands Fire and Rescue Service investigation was initiated and enquiries are currently ongoing into the cause of the fire.

Enquiries to date reveal that the house was occupied by Mr Alexander Hume, a retired teacher (aged 78 yrs) and his wife Hazel Hume (aged 73 yrs). It is now confirmed that it was Mrs Hume who sustained the fatal injuries.

A report on the death will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and a post mortem examination will be carried out on Wednesday 27th December 2024.
