Disturbance - Longhope, Island of Hoy, Orkney

POLICE can report that a man has been detained following reports of a disturbance on an island in Orkney in the early hours of this morning.

Police received a report of a disturbance in Longhope, on the Island of Hoy, Orkney, shortly after midnight today (28 October 2024).

As a precautionary measure this morning, police moved residents in the immediate vicinity in the small community into temporary accommodation, with the assistance of Orkney Islands Council, whilst investigations took place.

Investigations are continuing at present and members of the community will be able to return home as soon as searches have been completed and the immediate area has been deemed safe to do so.

A 40 year-old man has detained in connection with the incident.
