Loch Ness event with Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism aims to uncover local development ideas.

Issued: 8 Jun 2010

People with an interest in the economic, environmental, social and tourism development of one of Highland's top iconic destinations are being invited to air their views with Jim Mather, the Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism on Tuesday 15 June, in Inverness.

"Loch Ness" will be the topic of a session being held at the Town House, Inverness from 12 noon onwards at which the Minister will lead a discussion on the common goals for tourism and enterprise development around the Loch. It is hoped that the session will provide pointers for what The Highland Council and The Scottish Government has to do to see better economic, environmental and social outcomes for the area.

Jim Mather, Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism, said: "Bringing people together to discuss opportunities for this iconic area is the most effective way to achieve the success we all want to see.

"This event will give representatives of local businesses, Highland Council, the Scottish Government and other key stakeholders an opportunity to get to grips with key issues affecting Loch Ness and collaborate on how best to drive forward development, and ultimately stimulate sustained economic growth. I am delighted to be involved in this process."

One particular area which will be explored at the meeting is the possibility of enhancing the level of cooperation between Inverness and Loch Ness and their respective businesses to bring benefits to both areas.

During the session the Minister will map the issues raised and record attendees' views on the capabilities that the Council and the Government has to achieve these goals. Attendees will also be encouraged to identify matters that they think inhibit and constrain progress.

The event will take place in the Town House, Inverness on Tuesday 15 June 2010. A sandwich lunch will be provided at 12 noon with the formal proceedings starting from 12.30. The event is free and open to all businesses as well as involving appropriate public sector partners.
