Culloden Academy will re-open to all pupils tomorrow (Thursday 26 August). The 820 pupil school in Inverness has been closed since a fire broke out in the kitchen early on Tuesday morning.

Although the fire which was contained in the kitchen area, was quickly put out by the fire crews called out, smoke and fumes did spread to other areas of the school. The school was closed yesterday and today to allow for the thorough cleaning of all areas, air quality tests to be completed and repairs made to the ventilation systems.

Rector Steven Dowds said: "The clean up operation continues today and into the evening but I am delighted to announce that we will reopen to everyone tomorrow. The kitchens will take longer before they are fully operational but we will have soup and a wide range of baguettes, filled rolls and sandwiches available during break and lunch times from three outlet areas around the school until further notice."

Culloden community complex operations have remained unaffected and the sports area and swimming pool have remained open as normal for evening sessions.
