Members of the Conon Bridge Community Council, along with representatives from the Highland Council and HITRANS met with Stewart Stevenson, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change, on Friday 10 September to express their support for proposals to re-open Conon Railway Station.
The Council has already expressed its support for the re-opening of Conon Rail station, which closed in 1960, by committing £100k to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists to help encourage the shift from cars to rail.
The next stage in this important project is to develop a detailed design, and the Minister agreed that The Highland Council and HITRANS should work with Transport Scotland to identify funding for design work. The Minister also asked that the local community would be kept up to date with progress on a regular basis.
Councillor Angela MacLean, who is a member for Dingwall and Seaforth and a member of the TEC Services Committee, said that she was very pleased with the outcome of the meeting, which helped to clarify the roles of the Transport Scotland, HITRANS and the Council in taking the important project forward.
She said: "For the three partners to agree that we should work together to identify funding for the detailed design stage is a significant step forward."
